Jeff Daniels the actor never tires of talking about Jeff Daniels the musician. Nor does he mind that he has plenty of fans who still don’t realize that they’re the same person. His cinema and television acting careers have rarely had a lull since audiences took notice of him three decade ago as Flap Horton in “Terms of Endearment.” He recently reprised his breakout comedy role as Harry Dunne in “Dumb and Dumber To,” and a few weeks ago wrapped up starring in the HBO series “The Newsroom,” for which he nabbed a lead actor Emmy playing news anchor Will McAvoy. On the last episode, Will picked up a guitar and sang a tasty, upbeat cover of Tom T. Hall’s “That’s How I Got to Memphis.”
That side of him shouldn’t really have come as a surprise. Daniels dueted with Kristin Chenoweth on “Never Ending Song of Love” in the film “R/V,” and crooned “Alabamy Bound,” accompanied by Mia Farrow on ukulele, in “The Purple Rose of Cairo.” Throughout his years of acting, Daniels has always found time to sing.
